Cut Pile

Pile where loops have been sheared (cut) creating smooth velvet-like surface. Less absorbent than loop pile.

Cut pile refers to fabric where the pile loops have been sheared (cut) to create a smooth, velvet-like surface. In towels, this is called velour.

How It's Made

  1. Fabric is woven with loop pile (standard terry)
  2. Loops are sheared on one or both sides
  3. Cut fibres create smooth surface

Properties

Smoothness: Cut pile is smoother than loop pile - a velvet-like feel.

Appearance: Better surface for printed designs; colours appear more vibrant.

Absorbency: Less absorbent than loop pile. Cut fibres don't hold water as effectively as loops.
