Unpleasant smell from bacteria, mould, or residue. Main types: musty (mildew), sour (bacteria), and chemical (residue).

Odour in towels - any unpleasant smell - typically indicates bacteria, mould, or buildup problems.

Types of Towel Odour

Musty: Earthy, stale smell. Indicates mildew/mould. Caused by staying damp too long.

Sour: Sharp, acidic smell. Bacterial waste products. From inadequate washing or drying.

Chemical: Artificial, perfume-like. Detergent or softener residue.

Body odour: Familiar human smell. Inadequate washing, oils not removed.

  • Multiple hot washes

Prevention:

  • Spread towels to dry after use
  • Wash before odour develops
  • Ensure ventilation

When to Replace

If odour persists after multiple treatments:
