Silk is a natural protein fibre produced by silkworms. It's rarely used in towels due to low absorbency, but appears in some specialty products.
Why Not Silk Towels?
Silk is poorly suited for drying:
- Low absorbency
- Expensive
- Delicate
- Requires careful washing
- Water can damage/stain
These properties make silk impractical for bath towels.
Where Silk Appears
Hair towels/wraps: Silk's smoothness reduces friction and frizz. Silk or silk-satin pillowcases and hair wraps protect hair.
Silk-blend towels: Small percentage for sheen (rare).
Decorative towels: Silk borders or embroidery.
Silk vs Satin
Silk: The fibre (from silkworms).
Satin: A weave type (can be silk OR synthetic).
"Satin" hair products are usually synthetic satin (polyester), not silk.
For Hair Care
