Snag

Pulled loop or thread caught on something. Common in terry towels. Can be trimmed but may indicate quality issues.

Snag refers to a loop or thread pulled out from the towel surface, usually caught on something sharp like jewellery, rough skin, or Velcro.

Causes

  • Rings and jewellery
  • Rough fingernails
  • Velcro (clothing, bags)
  • Hooks and hardware
  • Pets' claws

Fixing Snags

Don't pull: May worsen damage.

Trim carefully: Cut the pulled loop flush with surface.

Needle trick: Use a blunt needle to gently push loop back through to wrong side.

Trimming won't cause unravelling - terry loops aren't continuous.

Prevention

  • Remove rings before towel use
  • Keep towels away from Velcro
  • Check for rough edges on towel bars
  • Trim hangnails

Quality Factor

Excessive snagging may indicate:

  • Loose pile construction
  • Poor quality yarn
  • Low pile density

Quality towels snag less and survive snags better.

  • Pile - What gets snagged
  • Pull - Similar issue
