Water spots are marks left on fabric when water - particularly hard water - evaporates, leaving mineral deposits behind.
Appearance
- Lighter marks on dark fabric
- Circular or irregular shapes
- May have defined edges
- Often clustered
Causes
Hard water contains calcium and magnesium. When water evaporates, minerals remain as visible deposits.
More noticeable on:
- Dark colours
- Smooth fabrics
- After splash contact
Prevention
- Address water hardness
- Rinse thoroughly when washing
- Don't let water dry naturally on fabric
Removal
Usually removed by:
- Normal washing
- Vinegar treatment (dissolves minerals)
- Laundry stripping (for buildup)
In Hard Water Areas
If water spots are persistent:
- Consider water softener
- Use vinegar rinses
- Accept as minor issue
