Yarn

Continuous strand of fibres twisted together for weaving or knitting. The building block of woven fabric.

Yarn is a continuous strand of textile fibres twisted or spun together, used for weaving, knitting, or other fabric construction.

How It's Made

  1. Fibres are cleaned and aligned
  2. Fibres are drawn into a thin strand
  3. Strand is twisted for strength
  4. Yarn is wound onto bobbins

Yarn Types in Towels

Ring-spun: Twisted using ring spinning - smoother, stronger

Open-end (rotor): Faster production, coarser yarn

Combed: Short fibres removed before spinning

Carded: Basic processing only

Yarn Quality Factors

  • Fibre quality (staple length, fineness)
  • Spinning method
  • Twist level
  • Ply (single, 2-ply)
  • Evenness

In Towel Construction

Towels use yarn for:

  • Ground cloth (warp and weft)
  • Pile (loops)

Pile yarn is often softer/different construction than ground yarn.
